Labor vote collapses in key areas – Greens boost numbers in NSW local govt elections

The collapse of Labor's vote in some inner city areas and the increase in the Greens vote in a number of local government areas by more than 15 per cent sends a strong message to the Rees government, Greens MP Lee Rhiannon said.

"More than 70 Greens candidates have been elected across NSW with breakthroughs occurring in both regional areas and Sydney suburbs," Ms Rhiannon said.

"The results in in the inner city areas of Marrickville and Leichhardt where the Greens outpolled Labor are encouraging for the state election.

    The Greens initiated Senate inquiry into the Coorong has already shown its value, after it immediately discovered that the federal government has failed to consult with leading agencies like CSIRO about the water audit and modelling for getting emergency water to the Coorong.

    "It is clear now why Minister Penny Wong didn't want this Senate inquiry," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens water spokesperson, said in Canberra today.

    Greens seek answers on hospital

    Greens parliamentarian Lee Rhiannon will today lodge questions in the NSW Upper House seeking answers from the Health Minister Reba Meagher on the crisis in emergency ward capacity at Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
