ACT Greens pick up 4th seat.
The ACT Electoral Commission has just announced that the ACT Greens Molonglo candidate Caroline Le Couteur has won a fourth Greens seat in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
Caroline joins Amanda Bresnan in Brindabella, Meredith Hunter in Ginninderra, and Shane Rattenbury who was also elected in the seat of Molonglo. Labor has seven seats, the Liberals six and the Greens have four seats.
ACT Greens: 3 maybe 4 new MPs
On Saturday the ACT elected at least three, and possibly four Greens MLAs to the new Legislative Assembly. The Greens’ vote was 15.7% across the ACT (a swing of 6.4%) and the Greens will now hold the balance of power.
With 86% of votes counted at 2pm on Monday afternoon, it is clear that Amanda Bresnan has been elected in Brindabella, Meredith Hunter has been elected in Ginninderra, and Shane Rattenbury has been elected in Molonglo. There is a chance that either Caroline Le Couteur or Elena Kirschbaum will pick up a fourth seat for the Greens in Molonglo, but this result is not likely to be known for some time.
ACT Greens storm into likely balance of power
With 80% of the vote counted, The ACT Greens have managed to produce a significant swing of 6.6% polling just under 16%. The Greens are set to win 3 seats, one in each electorate, most likely holding the balance of power in the Legislative Assembly.
In the electorate of Molonglo The Greens have won a seat outright, polling 18.7% up 6.9%, ensuring Shane Rattenbury a seat. In the electorate of Brindabella The Greens have polled 13.8% up 6.5% giving Amanda Bresnan a likely seat, and in Ginninderra The Greens polled 14.4% up 5.9 which gives Meredith Hunter a very likely seat.
Congratulations to the ACT Greens, especially to the candidates, staff, supporters and all the hard working volunteers.
